learner-profile system implemented last week
November 18, 2012
Last week, I implemented a new system into my classroom that is geared to help students become more accountable for their own academic progress. During my first year as a teacher, I introduced a pilot portfolio system that proved highly effective in getting students to not only track their own progress but, also to actually increase their overall academic achievement. After reviewing the results of the pilot program, I decided to continue using the idea of having classroom portfolio's. For more information, please visit the page on our new Learner-Profile System.

STudents Create their own high-school organizations
Peer-Marketing Approach to Student Learning (peer-pressure based upon competition).
Students are asked to record instructions on a classroom project for their fellow peers. In this approach, clips of the students are organized in a fashion that is likely to appeal to their fellow peers and therefore generate interest in the classroom project.
Project instructions: students are asked to work together in student cooperative learning groups to design their own high-school organization or club. In doing so, students must create a purpose statement and then design an overall marketing approach in effort to attract as much support to their organizations as possible. The organization with the most support (student and faculty) may win an opportunity to actually launch their organization within the high-school.
